Ed is a very high achiever. He had completed high school in 3 years and was in his last year of college. Although he was being trained to be a teacher, he wasn’t sure that teaching was what he wanted as a career. In the meantime, Ed devoted a large part of his time to a non-profit enrichment program based in his community. He valued the opportunity to help grow positive relationships among his fellow citizens. He had a decision to make: what to do upon graduation. So he decided to work with me to investigate some of the possibilities and to guide him through the decision-making process. We began our work together by mining for values. Once we established a firm grip on what it was that rang Ed’s bell, we began to explore what each of the known options had to offer him. As we progressed in our work together, Ed ended up exploring many more possibilities than those that he had believed existed for him. After Ed surveyed his options, he decided to enroll in a graduate school program that he found which blended his desires to remain active with his community outreach, pursue his interest in government, and participate in the non-profit sector. Ed moved to another part of the state to do this, took a more responsible position in his non-profit program and is now developing a plan to build a consulting practice that will utilize his teaching background to assist other non-profits in his area. |
